VERSO (Dave the Poet)
I am a maverick poet, philosopher, lyricist, singer, designer, photographer, inventor, artist, ...jack of all, master of none. (My aim is to be master of Self).
I have been writing my poetry for over twenty years without the intention or aspiration to publish my work. Due to the continual encouragement from those that have viewed my art, I have, at last, decided to push the metaphorical boat out and test it to see if it is seaworthy.
I have received critical acclaim from a retired 'Times' critic; who likened me to a 21st century William Blake. I was that ignorant of poetry that I didn't know who he was. I do now see his point as I do write about metaphysics, mankind and spirituality.
To be perfectly honest, I am not a fan of the art and history of poetry. In fact, I have never read a book of it from cover to cover; I usually flick through the pages in a random fashion before I place the material back on the shelf where I feel most of it belongs.
Alike so much modern art, their theme seems to be all about the selfish expression of their own shallow neurosis, at the expense of a genuine search for higher universal truths.
My art is from my Soul, my experiences, my studies, my empathy and intuition.

The Reasoning and Intentions Behind My Site
I am putting this site together as a shop window for my poetry and other interests. I am looking for an agent to represent me at an international level.
I am also looking to work with real people with potential genius abilities; not wannabe's and wasters. Musicians of all genres from classical to rave, jazz, blues, rock, experimental...etc. I would also like to combine talents with original film makers and imaging experts to create a unique CDR to accompany my book of poetry called, 'The Living Word'... (just artwork and graphics to be decided).
I am also a prolific songwriter since discovering that I do have a voice that people like to hear. I don't do covers or rip offs of artists because I have no heroes of this field either. I never chased the pop star dream that so many people aspired to in their youth. I do it simply because it has been a natural progression for me to go from writing it to performing it.
My motivation and inspiration is born of my Soul not my Ego... this has been my biggest obstacle as I am essentially a shy extrovert and a confident introvert; as I call myself.
The Subjects and Content of my work
My subject is quite simply, the Human Condition... The Material, the Mental and the Metaphysical.
BODY / MIND / SPIRIT
My work is easily readable as it is about you, me and someone you know. The work I write has not been written to impress the self-selected elite who like to fence with words as a weapon of their perceived superiority.(Have you noticed, 'sword' is an anagram of 'words').
I use real language for real people. I do use the occassional expletive where necessary; though never gratuitously. I write about the things that concern us all... Sex / Religion / Politics / Personality / Identity / Insecurity / Love / Fear / Life / Death / Now / Eternity.
